Where the firm can act
Advisory and uncontested work, including agreements, wills and estate planning, business and corporate matters, negotiated settlements and uncontested divorces, is taken anywhere in Alberta. Contested matters in Calgary proceed through the Calgary Courts Centre, where the lawyer appears in person before the Court of King’s Bench and the Alberta Court of Justice. Contested matters in Edmonton are conducted with agent counsel, a lawyer the firm works with closely, who appears in court in Edmonton on the firm’s instructions, while the file, the strategy and the relationship with the client remain with the firm. Where a contested file is heard is set by where the parties live rather than by choice, and a caller whose matter belongs in another judicial centre is told in the first conversation whether the firm can act.

In and around Calgary, the firm acts for clients in the city itself and across the Calgary judicial district, including Cochrane, Springbank, Bearspaw, Elbow Valley, Bragg Creek, Priddis, De Winton, Heritage Pointe, Okotoks, Airdrie, Chestermere and Canmore. In the Edmonton region, it acts for clients in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park and Strathcona County, with agent counsel appearing in court in Edmonton.
